Special Guest Speakers:

Dr. Chanda Reynolds is a multifaceted personality, combining her skills as a licensed clinical psychologist, content creator, podcast host, and national speaker to become an emerging voice in the mental health community. She earned her doctorate degree in clinical psychology after noticing disparities in mental health within the Black church. Dr. Reynolds has a passion for addressing transgenerational trauma in the Black community, integrating faith and mental health, and improving mental health in the Black church. Her private practice in Washington, D.C. caters to children, adolescents, young adults, and families. As the clinical director and CEO of “Minds of the Culture”, a nonprofit and mobile app dedicated to increasing mental health access for the Black community, Dr. Reynolds has received recognition including the 400 Distinguished Award from the 400 Years of African American History Commission. Dr. Chanda is a sought-after speaker, presenting on mental health across the country and being named a TED-X speaker in South Africa for March 2023. She has been featured in major publications such as Essence magazine, Forbes, and Refinery 29 and has spoken for brands like Puma and Footlocker Women, as well as organizations like The United Negro College Fund, the American Public Health Association, the Association of Black Psychologists National Conventions (2017, 2019) and HBCU Week. She has spoken at universities including Rutgers and Cheyney University. Her podcast, recently named one of the top 5 podcasts for Black Women by Sheen Magazine, adds to her impact on the mental health community.

Christy Sims is a native of Atlanta, Christy is a public speaker, an author, a nationally-certified and licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a survivor of and advocate against domestic violence.  She holds a Bachelor Degree in Marketing from Georgia Southern University and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University.  Christy is also a member of the National Board of Certified Counselors, the American Counseling Association and Chi Sigma Iota National Counseling Honor Society. Christy Sims is a devoted mother of two whose life was forever changed on April 28, 2013, when her ex-boyfriend severely disfigured her by dousing her with sulfuric acid.  She sustained third and fourth degree burns to over 20 percent of her body, including her entire face, neck, chest and arms.  After the incident, she remained in an induced coma for two months and endured numerous lifesaving surgeries at the Grady Burn Unit in Atlanta.  She emerged from the coma with a resolve to survive, to return to her children and to pursue the prosecution of her abuser.  Due to her diligence, her abuser was finally brought to justice and sentenced to 20 years in prison on July 17, 2015, after a two-year fight. Christy is the first reported case of an acid attack in the state of Georgia.  To date, she has undergone 13 surgeries to reconstruct her disfigured face and body, and her personal struggle has propelled her to advocate and support other survivors of domestic violence.

Dr. Shawana S. Moore is a nationally recognized, board-certified women’s health nurse practitioner who specializes in providing women’s and gender-related care throughout the lifespan. She is the President of the National Association of Nurse Practitioner in Women’s Health. Shawana served as the Director of the Women’s Health- Gender Related Nurse Practitioner Program at Jefferson College of Nursing from 2014-2022. She is an Associate Professor, Clinical Track and the Director of the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program at Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Emory University. In her role at Emory, Dr. Moore is preparing DNP graduates to lead system level change, and implement and translate existing knowledge, evidence, and data to transform practice.
Dr. Moore is committed to providing women’s and reproductive health care to underserved populations. She has cared for women and the gender related populations across the lifespan, mostly in underserved areas, for more than a decade in Philadelphia, PA and Camden, NJ. She actively maintains clinical practice in the State of Georgia as a volunteer nurse practitioner at The Center for Black Women’s Wellness.
